How much does storage cost?
Kit Keeper is all about keeping costs down for students, so our storage is competitively priced. For the storage you pay per box per month, from as little as £3.00 per box. Click here to see all of our prices.
Are there any ‘hidden costs’?
We like to be as honest as we can with you, so our costs are displayed clearly and honestly. We charge you for the empty boxes we send and for their delivery to you. We won’t charge anything for the collection of your boxes, but we will charge you for the redelivery of your boxes whenever you want them back for £5.95 per box.
What can and can’t I store?
At the moment we can only store your belongings if they are in one of our approved boxes. Click here to see the sizes of our boxes and to order yours today.
There are few things which we can’t store for you, even if they’re in one of our boxes. Here’s a helpful list of the things we don’t store:
- Suitcases not packed in our suitcase boxes
- Musical instruments in soft cases
- Knives and sharp objects not suitably sleeved and wrapped
- Mirrors or large glass items
- Food and perishable goods including sauces (e.g. soy sauce and ketchup)
- Antiques (breakable and fragile)
- Birds, fish, animals or any other living creature
- Explosives, weapons or ammunition
- Any item which emits fumes, smell or odour
- Any illegal substances or goods illegally obtained
- Combustible or flammable materials, liquids or compressed gases, including but not limited to: paint, diesel, petrol, oil, gas, alcohol, artificial fertiliser or cleaning solvents
- Chemicals, radioactive materials, biological agents
- Toxic waste, asbestos or other materials of a dangerous nature
- Any other toxic, flammable or hazardous substance or preparations, classified as such under applicable law
Can I use my own boxes?
For our storage services, you must use one of our boxes which we send to you – anything not in these boxes will not be collected for storage. If you have stored with us before, you can reuse our boxes and not pay for the empty boxes.
For our shipping service, you may use your own boxes. However, they must be no larger than 75x50x50cm and must not weigh more than 25kg when fully packed. They must be strong boxes which are securely sealed and will survive the shipping process.
How does the collection of my packed boxes work?
You choose the collection date for your packed boxes when you make your booking. On that day, our courier will come to your address to pick up your boxes. You don’t need to print anything out or stick anything on, the drivers will have your labels for you. Please do not wrap your boxes in anything – cling film or any other protective packaging will cause problems with our courier and warehouse systems.
Please make sure that you are available to hand over your boxes at the time and day you have chosen. You can leave them with your halls of residence porter as long as you explain the situation and the porter knows your name and the number boxes being collected.
How do I get my boxes redelivered?
When you are ready to get your get boxes back, it’s easy to arrange the redelivery of your belongings. Simply send an email at email@example.com or call us on 020 3868 6815 with your preferred date for redelivery and we’ll sort it out. Log in to the website to choose when you want your boxes redelivered to you, and we’ll arrange everything from there.
How should my boxes be labelled?
You don’t have to do anything! Boxes for storage will come with our label on them already, and our courier will bring labels for the shipping of your boxes to the warehouse.
For shipping, the drivers will also come with the labels for you, so you just have to make sure the boxes are packed up and ready to go at your appointed slot. Easy!
Where do you store my belongings?
Your boxes will be kept safe and monitored 24/7 by CCTV in one of our secure storage facilities. Keeping your belongings safe and secure is our number one priority, so you’ll be in good hands.
How much do I pay and when do I pay it?
For storage, we ask for payment for the boxes, their delivery to you and the first month’s storage payment upfront. You then pay each month until you want your boxes back. At the end you pay for the redelivery of your boxes to you and for any outstanding payments. Our shipping service requires full payment of the total amount upfront.
Will you open my boxes?
We want your belongings to be safe. Keeping your boxes unopened is part of that plan. We’ll only open your box under exceptional circumstances. We’ll do so if we believe that there’s a risk of damage to your stuff, of injury to one of our team, or if we suspect your stuff stored is in breach of our terms and conditions. We may also open your box to repack it if there’s excess weight or inappropriate packing. If we have to open your boxes for any reason, we will let you know.
My boxes haven’t been collected/delivered – who can I contact?
Our couriers should be in contact with you to arrange a collection or delivery window. If you have contact with them, speak to them first to find out if there has been a problem or if you need to rearrange your delivery.
If you do not have a contact for them, you can call our customer service team on 020 3868 6815, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or message us on the chat function on the website. We’ll do whatever we can to sort out your problem and get your boxes picked up or delivered as soon as possible.
I want to rearrange my collection or delivery date or time, who should I contact?
If it is before 11am on the day before your scheduled delivery or collection, you can rearrange the slot with our couriers. You should have a contact for them including details of how to edit your slot.

What kind of packing equipment do you provide?
If you are storing with us or using our boxes for shipping your belongings, we send you brand new double-wall cardboard boxes for you to pack. We will also send a roll of acrylic packing tape with every order, free of charge.
If you’ve ordered bubble wrap, we send 5 metres of new bubble wrap to keep your belongings safe. We strongly recommend using bubble wrap to keep any delicate belongings safe. We cannot take responsibility for any breakages if you do not use bubble wrap or other protective packaging.
How much liability cover is included in the price?
We include cover of your belongings up to £100 per box for free with every order.
Do I have to pay for a full month of storage if I get my belongings back before the month ends?
We don’t want you to have to pay any more than necessary! So, we will only charge you for half a month of storage if your belongings are returned to you before the half-way point of your final month.
